Question:
This product doubled in price over the weekend. How is this not price gouging?
Answer:
Thank you for saying this. I know I was not mistaken in thinking this filter was less than $40 over the weekend when I came back today and see it selling for $70. I didn’t order because there was no delivery date on my purifier and I I didn’t want the return date to pass just in case there was a problem with it. This p… see more

Question:
Answer:
I've found that I can extend the life of the HEPA filter if I check the pre-filter (and clean it) more often. There is a fine screen in front of the activated-charcoal filter. I can vacuum the dust/cat hair off it (and sometimes I vacuum the carbon filter too). Keeping these filters clean seems to keep the HEPA filter … see more

1.0 out of 5 stars Toxic fumes — do not buy

This filter gives off toxic levels of chemicals and the photos above show that. I don’t know whether it’s glue or the whole filter was dipped in some type of organic chemical but the VOCs coming off of it register as “unsafe” on an air quality monitor that I own. See the photos above. I put the new filter in, noticed the horrible smell that others mentioned and so I tested the air coming out of the filter with my air quality monitor (bought to monitor California’s smoky air from annual fall forest fires). Just to make sure it wasn’t something else in the room setting off the monitor, I reinstalled the old (dirty) HEPA filter that shipped with the device and the VOC measurements went way down, back to a safe level (see photo). It’s ironic that people seeking to clean their air would receive a filter made by the device manufacturer that actually makes the air toxic and unsafe to breath. Amazon should stop selling this product immediately and find a filter that isn’t toxic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely vile odor on these replacement filters

Disgusting. I am sick to my stomach after running this filter for 10 minutes. I don't know what this chemical is that this filter is offgassing but it is VILE. The original filter was great, had no such issues. I came to write a review and discovered other reviews mentioning the same thing – this apparently is not a new problem and still hasn't been fixed! That is unacceptable.
I specifically paid twice as much as the non branded filters to buy directly from Coway to avoid these kinds of issues. Please save your money. Buy a different air filter.
